    How Perfume Is Made Today

Perfume is a scented liquid worn on the skin to impart a pleasant odor. Perfume is made up of animal and plant-based aromatic compounds, dissolved in a mixture of alcohol and water. Perfume is the most highly concentrated form of fragrance. The ratio of alcohol to scent determines whether the perfume is "eau de toilette" (toilet water) or cologne.

Perfume - The Sensuous, Long-Lasting Fragrance

To be termed a "true" or "real" perfume, a fragrance must contain at least 15% perfume oil. The greater the concentration of perfume oil, the richer, the more sensuous and the longer-lasting the fragrance. It is the fragrance that combines with your body heat, skin chemistry and natural odor and acts as the bridge between the top note and the base note.

Perfume is said to have three notes that work together to form the lasting fragrance. Top notes have tangy or citrus-like scents; central or middle notes (aromatic flowers like rose and jasmine) provide the heart or body of the scent, and base notes (woody fragrances) provide an enduring fragrance. Before bottling, the perfume is usually tested by a "Nose" to insure quality and that the desired fragrance is achieved. The perfume is then bottled and ready for distribution.

Today perfume bottles are designed by the manufacturer to reflect the character of the fragrance inside, whether light and flowery, or dark and musky. Donna Karan perfume is a small line of perfume that was created to accentuate the fashion of DKNY. Roberto Cavalli perfume is new to the public, but his lines of clothing are not. The very first Anna Sui perfume was her signature fragrance, Anna Sui.

Estee Lauder is noted for its provocative line of nineteen quality perfumes, each with a distinctive fragrance. Hugo Boss fragrance line provides each new generation with timely and significant fragrances and perfumes, whether masculine or feminine. Issey Miyake perfume has only put out eight fragrances in the last ten years, but the Issey Miyake perfumes and fragrances are some of the best in the design world. The Ralph Lauren perfume and fragrance line began in 1978. The Salvador Dali perfume or fragrance for men is a minor collection to the Salvador Dali perfume for women collection.

How To Select The Right Designer Fragrance?

In order to make fragrance strips commonly used in advertisements, pre-cut papers are pre-treated with a base coat of special water-based adhesive which is extruded through pumps on the printer.

Over the years, designers and manufacturers have created and introduced thousands of individual perfume fragrances. In an effort to help categorize the various fragrances, the Societe francasise des parfumeurs defined, and the Comite francais du parfum published a list of perfume families that has been widely adopted by the industry. Selecting a designer fragrance should be fun, but with a choice of hundreds of top designer perfumes, it can quickly turn into a frustrating chore. The nose is easily confused and when your nose "doesn't know", how do you proceed with selecting the right designer fragrance for you.

Although discount designer perfumes and colognes use less expensive man-made ingredients and cheaper packaging to limit costs, discount designer fragrances are often hard to discern from the original, higher priced perfumes and colognes. With hundreds of different fragrances to choose from, there is a wide selection of popular and unusual designer perfumes and aftershaves available.

Attention Perfume Wearer - You May Be Responsible For Tormenting An Animal

The civet has been the source of a highly-valued musk, used as a stabilizing agent in perfumes. Both male and female civets produce strong-smelling excretions. Although civets were at one time killed for their musk, they more recently have been "recycled" for this purpose. The perfume, also called "civet", is achieved by scrapping the civet's perianal glands.

Collecting the perfume is a painful process for the live animals; it does not kill them. The animals are kept in tiny cages for years and every few days the keepers scrape the civet out of the anal sacs. The secretion is then purified in alcohol, and then the perfume is diluted and used in minute quantities. In strong amounts, the musk can provoke vomiting in humans.

If you are an animal lover, you may not realize what torture you put these poor animals - an endangered species - through. Instead change to plant-derived essential oils.

Essential Oils - Scents For Royals

Already the early Egyptians used essential oils to perfume their dead. Regarded more valuable than gold, essential oils were only accessible to kings. They often assigned specific fragrances to deities. Their word for perfume has been translated as "fragrance of the gods". Europeans discovered the healing properties of fragrance during the 17th century. Aromatherapy - smelling essential oils to cure physical and emotional problems - is being revived today.

Therapeutic-grade essential oils (aroma-essence.com) are best suited as perfume because they are pure and unadulterated, and contain no additives. They are uplifting and safe to wear.

Paris perfume is made up of natural and synthetic fragrant oil extracts, which are diluted with water. (Note that fragrance oils and therapeutic-grade essential oils are not the same.) The first step in the process of making perfume is in the blending of essential oils to achieve the desired fragrance. Once the fragrance oils are produced, they are then mixed with pure alcohol (95% pure or 190 proof) through a process known as maceration. The concentration of fragrance oils and alcohol are then combined in stainless steel vats for a period of weeks, sometimes months, allowing the molecules of the plants to blend together.

Both cologne and discount perfume that have blends of floral and citrus-based fragrances are recommended for casual and daywear. Spicy, woody or warm amber-based fragrances are traditionally favorites for evening and special occasions.

Conclusion: What Perfume Should You Choose?

There are several categories of fragrances available today: perfume is most concentrated, followed by eau de parfum, eau de toilette, and eau de cologne, each containing a lesser degree of aromatic oils, respectively. Pure perfume is rarely sold, since it is prohibitively expensive and too easy to 'overdo'. With so many different fragrances to choose from, you'll find the right scent that uplifts your senses.

The healthiest perfume are therapeutic-grade essential oils - they are unadulterated, not mixed with additives, and 100% pure. Most of all, they are certain not to harm animals, because they are derived solely of plant materials without the use of stabilizing agents scraped from tormented animals!

They are followed by natural fragrance extracts in an alcohol base. The alcohol destroys the healing power of the live essence (essential oil), but the fragrance oils smell nice. Last but most common today are the synthetic fragrances. They cannot be discerned from true natural scents, are much cheaper to produce, and are added to all the common "aromatherapy" products on the market today like room fresheners, scented toilet cleaners, and of course perfume. They may cause headache to unsuspected and sensitive users.

Looking for a safe, healing, uplifting and environmental conscious perfume: Therapeutic-grade essential oils (aroma-essence.com) are best suited as perfume because they are pure and unadulterated, and contain no additives. They are kind and safe to wear, and clarify and magnetize the aura of the wearer.
